I am thrilled to be joining the Lead community this year! A native of the Upstate, I graduated from Furman University in 2006 and joined Teach For America’s national corps of recent graduates who commit at least two years to closing the opportunity gap in hard-to-staff school districts. Through TFA, I taught 6th grade English in Tohatchi, NM on the Navajo Nation and quickly learned two things: first, that all students can achieve, and second, that I wanted to work as an educator well beyond my two year commitment.
After teaching in San Francisco for a time, I came back to my home state of South Carolina and earned a graduate degree in middle grades education from Clemson University. For the past two years, I’ve spent August to May managing Teach For America’s recruitment at South Carolina schools, and worked in Tulsa, OK during the summers to train members of the incoming TFA corps.
I’m particularly excited to begin at Lead because it’s clear to me that every member of the community—students, staff, and families—is driven by a common vision.
